Genealogy of Henry VI, King of England, (Brasenose College MS 91) 15th century

Subject

Descendants of Henry VI in roll form, 15th century, Brasenose College MS 91.

Description

A genealogical chronicle in roll form showing the descent of Henry VI from Adam. Possibly based on rolls attributed to Roger Albon, beginning like some of those with the short preface "Considerans ... vaque ad henricum sextum originaliter finem perduxi".

One large decorated initial in red and blue ink, capitals in red and blue ink. Main line of descent is a red line, with thinner red, green or brown lines used for side branches and archbishops. Roundels for Adam & Eve, with smaller roundels for Noah, Christ and Brutus. The only filled roundel is for Lucius - a pencil sketch of a king. Faint drawing of Mary and Child above the roundel for Adam and Eve; beside this is a kneeling man holding a scroll with text: "Plasmator mundi Baten miserere Iohanni".
